MicroBooks: bookkeeping,
traced to the receipt.

An AI accounting platform for small businesses. It reads the receipts, invoices, and bank statements, does the books, and keeps every entry traceable to the document behind it. Designed and built by Megsoft.

The problem

Small business bookkeeping runs on paper that never stops arriving: receipts in inboxes and glove compartments, invoices in three formats, a bank feed nobody reconciles until tax season. Categorizing it all by hand is hours every month, and the errors compound silently until an accountant finds them in April. Books are either current and trusted, or they are neither.

The interesting engineering problem isn't reading a receipt with AI. It's keeping books your accountant can verify.

THE DESIGN RULE

No entry reaches the ledger without a traceable path back to the document that created it. AI does the bookkeeping; you stay able to audit it.

WHAT THE PLATFORM DOES

Reads the paperwork for you

Forward the receipts, snap the invoices, connect the bank. The platform reads every line, so the books build themselves as the month happens.

Every entry shows its receipt

Click any number in the books and see the exact document it came from. Nothing lands in the ledger on faith.

NET · AUGUST · EVERY ENTRY SOURCE-LINKED

Categorized as it lands

Every transaction sorted into the right category the moment it arrives, learning how your business actually spends.

Catches what looks off

Duplicates, unusual amounts, deposits that match nothing. Flagged for a one-click decision instead of buried in the ledger.

Reconciled to the bank

Every entry checked against the bank statement's own totals, to the cent, every month.

READMATCHRECONCILECLOSE

Month-end close, guided

A checklist that walks the close step by step, so the month ends decided instead of drifting into the next one.

Cash you can see coming

What's in the bank, what's owed to you, and what's due next, on one screen instead of three logins.

Reports your accountant can verify

Profit and loss, balance sheet, and cash flow where every line opens back to its documents.

Tax season, already packed

The year's books export as a clean package your tax preparer can work from on day one.

P&LSCHEDULESRECEIPTS

Private by default

Your books stay yours. They are never used to train models or to feed anyone else's analysis.

How it's engineered

  • Provenance-first ledger. Every entry carries its origin: which document, which line, which extraction run. The same architecture Megsoft proved in XCreos, applied to the books.
  • AI where it pays, rules where it counts. Language models read the paperwork; deterministic double-entry validation guards the ledger. The AI never gets to invent an entry.
  • Flags, not silent fixes. Anything ambiguous goes to a review queue with the evidence attached. The books never change without a person being able to see why.

Where it stands

MicroBooks is in development at Megsoft, taking the provenance discipline behind XCreos to the books every small business has to keep. The goal is books that are always current, always reconciled to the bank, and always auditable, without the owner spending their evenings on them.
